(Daniel and I are unashamed Simon and Garfunkel fans, so I had to pay homage to their song America in the blog title.) :)
Over Veteran's Day and part of that weekend Daniel and I were so excited to take a mini-road trip down to New Jersey to visit our dear friends Nick and Beck plus their newest addition Emory! Daniel also took a day to go down and visit Princeton Seminary, one of his top choices for a PhD program, so all in all it was a very productive trip. :)
We woke up bright and early on Veteran's Day morning so we could get off to an early start and beat the NYC traffic! We ate a quick breakfast and headed southwest through Massachusetts and into Connecticut. Nick and Beck had advised us to avoid New York City but we decided to trust Gretchen and follow the way she led us. Unfortunately, Gretchen led us right through the Bronx and even at around 1:00 pm there was traffic!! It really wasn't anything too bad though, and as a plus we had some lovely views of New York City!
Daniel flashing some gang signs while driving through the Bronx.
Traffic...
River views on one side of the bridge...
And city views on the other!
More city views after we crossed into New Jersey!
Another plus we had not realized was that by traveling this way we would be passing right by the New Meadowlands, the stadium that the New York Jets and Giants share. As it is Daniel's eternal quest to visit every NFL stadium (looking back we really should have made more stops on our move to Mass!) we knew we had to stop.
The New Meadowland
Some strange sports/indoor ski complex next door.

We snapped a picture of Daniel in front, but the he decided to take it one step further and try and go inside. There were lots of cars and other people walking in and out (we think they were workers cleaning and getting the stadium ready for Sunday's game) so Daniel was able to waltz right in. :)

We made it to Washington, New Jersey in the late afternoon, Beck started dinner, and then Nick had to leave for an evening event at the church, so Daniel decided to join him. Beck and I had a lovely evening catching up, holding Emory, and relaxing.
Emory lounging around reading a book. :)
Friday morning, Daniel took off bright and early to visit Princeton Seminary. He was able to make appointments with two Professors he would be interested in studying under which was awesome. Daniel also was able to explore the area a little bit as well as the beautiful campus!

This is the special Barth room in one of the libraries.

Nick had to work so I had another low-key day with Beck and Emory. :) Nick came home early so we took a nice stroll around Washington and decided what to do for dinner. Due to Emory's aversion to car seats we opted for some Chinese take-out and Daniel met us at home to eat.
Saturday morning we were very excited to eat at an authentic Jersey diner! The menu was large and decision making was difficult, but we were able to try a large variety of diner food. There was this bacon/sausage/meat thing I really liked but I can't remember the name! Nick and/or Beck - help! Anyway, we had a wonderful brunch then headed back to Nick and Beck's place for some games before we hit the road.
Sleeping on Daddy...
Waking up and bundled up for our walk to the diner. :)
At the diner...

Back home, attempting to catch a picture of E-man smiling. :)
Family photo! :)
Hahaha, so Nick was changing a diaper after we got home from the diner, and Emory was so bundled up, that when Nick took off his pants they remained (with socks!) fully intact. :) It was super funny, and we tried to trick Daniel into thinking it was Emory, though it didn't entirely work out (video footage in my uploaded video below...)
Holding the babe...

Playing some Clue...Daniel and Beck duking it out. :)
Emory looking extra cute with Dad!
For whatever reason, Daniel was obsessed with taking videos on our camera this weekend. So I made a compilation of sorts of all the clips together. Be warned, the quality is rather poor. :)
The drive home was uneventful, thank goodness, AND we managed to avoid NYC traffic this time which was extra good. :) Thanks again so much for having us Nick and Beck!!! We love you both and miss you tons. It was great to see the new place you call home though, and of course, we loved getting to meet your son. :)

Loved the video... especially the one where you turned the camera sideways! ;)
