memorial day weekend!

Well, I am only a month or so behind now! :) Slowly but surely catching up...Things are slowing down for us at home lately (though getting busier and busier at work for us both!). This weekend we have no official plans, which we are thrilled about. :) We will most likely be going to the beach tomorrow, and I will probably [finally] take pictures of the apartment. Everything is just about done so it is nice to have some free time again. We have been pretty much non-stop working on the place (or hosting) since we moved.

Anyway, back at the end of May we had our dear, dear friends Aaron and Megan Gibbs and Ryan and Emily Flynn come and visit us! We were thrilled and had such a fun time hanging out with them. :) One of Aaron's family members has a cabin in Rhode Island, so we headed down there for the weekend. Aaron and Megan had to leave early, but Ryan and Emily were here a few extra days so we got to take a trip to the beach as well as spend time in downtown Boston. The pictures are a mix of all of ours, but mostly Ryan's because let's face it, his are the best. :)

The Gibbs' and Flynn's arrived on Thursday evening before Memorial Day. After a "scenic" trip home, everyone (including Daniel) arrived for dinner at our place. We had our friends Reed and Emily and Nick and Rebecca join us for dessert so our friends could meet our friends. :)

I took Friday off of work so we could have some extra time together. After breakfast we packed up to get ready to go to R.I. We made a few stops before going there though. First stop was to singing beach in Manchester-by-the-sea.

Aaron missed the RVCA bird shirt and green hat memo. :)

Next stop was to Woodman's for some fried seafood.

After a quick stop at Costco for some food, we headed south. We arrived, settled in, ate dinner, and enjoyed some fun game playing that evening.

The Flynn's looking serious. :)

Girl's winning catch phrase.

We also played a round of one of our favorite games, Gretch. The girls won that as well. :)

And we had to introduce Emily to Catan as she had never played before! :)

The next morning we had breakfast and played another game of Catan.

After a nice lunch on the deck we decided to head out on the water!

The girls took the row boat...

Daniel took the kayak...

and Ryan and Aaron had the canoe. :)

I had never been fishing before so we decided it would be fun to try on the lake. While Aaron was showing me how to cast off, he caught a fish! :)

Then Ryan wanted to try and he caught one too! :)

Then it was my turn. Here I am fishing for the first time ever (except for this one time at Tom Sawyer's Island in Disneyland, but we all decided that that didn't count.)

While I was fishing the boys decided to race. And then the next thing we knew Ryan and Aaron were in the water!

This is when we discovered that not only was the lake extremely shallow, but it had about 3 feet of muck on the floor, so Ryan and Aaron were about waist deep in lake-junk...yuck.

During all the commotion my fishing line got tangled. We couldn't fix it in the boat so I was just pulling in the line by hand...and lo and behold there was a little fishy on the end! :) So I have now caught a real live fish. :)

We headed back to shore, the boys showered, and we started BBQ-ing dinner.

And enjoyed delicious smores for dessert.

That evening more Gretch and Catan was played.

The next morning we packed up, cleaned up, and left.

Aaron and Megan headed straight to the airport to fly home, while Ryan, Emily, Daniel, and I headed back home. Since it was still early afternoon we decided to head to Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester for the afternoon! On the way home we got 2 yummy chicken kabob salads from North Beverly Roast Beef and 2 roast beef sandwiches from Nick's famous roast beef for dinner. After dinner we got some ice cream from Cherry Farm Creamery and then we stopped by Daniel and I's new apartment to see it empty for the first time!

The next morning we headed down to spend the day in Boston!

Happy Memorial Day!

We started on Newbury Street, walked through the Public Gardens and Boston Common...

Through a part of Beacon Hill...

Through the downtown, Quincy Market, and into the North End.

Daniel being glorified. :)

We had a yummy lunch at one of the many authentic Italian restaurants in the North End.

We visited an old graveyard.

And got some yummy dessert at Mike's Pastry. (Also some gelato from a gelateria!)

By now we were pooped, so we walked to the closest T-station and made our way back home.

We relaxed for the rest of the evening and early the next morning Ryan and Emily headed via bus to New York City for a quick visit. :)

Sorry for the picture overload, but it was just bound to happen. :)

Miss you dear friends, can't wait until we see you again!
