the tobin's visit

Well, as I said yesterday, my parents just left us after a very fun and eventful long weekend. They arrived Friday morning and safely made it to our apartment and rested while Daniel had class and I was at work. I got off work a little early that day so we could go out to an early dinner. We went to thai, and it was good. :)

Saturday morning we all slept in (even my father slept in until 10! I have never witnessed him sleeping in that late. I will give him that we are on the east coast though, so "technically" he woke up at 7AM pacific time!) and then cooked a big feast of a breakfast. My mom made some yummy potatoes, Daniel made the bacon and I made eggs and waffles.

In the afternoon we headed out to Russell Orchards for some apple picking. I think everyone else is Massachusetts decided to come on this day too - it was packed! It was a beautiful day though and that place is such a fun place to go we stuck it out and come home with 10+ lbs worth of apples.

Hayride to the apple trees.

picking....

We came home, changed, and then headed out to a delicious seafood dinner in Essex. We went to the Village Restaurant, another fabulous recommendation from our Roadfood book from Aunt Tammy and Uncle Don!!!

Sunday we went to church and after went to lunch at a famous New England eatery, the Clambox. (Also recommended in Roadfood but we had heard of it and seen it before). So apparently the clams are amazing in our north shore/cape ann area, or maybe its just the fried clams. I am not too sure but fried clams are offered absolutely everywhere. But, according to Roadfood, these are the best of the best. So we went. There is always, always, always a line to place your order (except maybe in the dead of winter) but we endured the heat (it was almost 80 on Sunday!) and we happily rewarded with some fabulous fried seafood. :)

And to top it all off, we headed a few more miles down the road and got some amazing homemade ice cream from white farms, recommended to us by some friends. It was really good.

Of course we had to get some to watch some football (pictured yesterday). We had a relaxing evening gearing up for a big day on Monday!

Monday I went to work and Daniel went to class like normal (and my Dad actually went to one of Daniel classes with him!). I got off early though so we could make the trip down to Boston for a Red Sox game!! It was so fun and amazing to finally get to go to a game. We got some pizza for dinner before the game and headed to our seats. I couldn't believe for close to the field you feel! The stadium is so old and so small, every seat is a great seat! The game was a lot of fun, though unfortunately they lost.

waiting for the T....

Just about to head up to our seats

Fenway Park

You can kind of get an idea of where our seats were...center field just below the megatron screen whatever thing. (that's the technical term) :)

Some game action.

We thought it was really funny that they sold New England Clam Chowder up and down the aisles. :)

The highlight for me was most definitely getting to sing sweet caroline in the middle of the 8th inning. It was just a lot of fun how everyone was standing up singing, dancing, and getting in to it. I attempted to video it, but we will see if that video makes a debut on here. Until then, I found this on youtube, and figure it is probably the epitome of sweet caroline singing as it was taken during game 7 of the ALCS last year. :) Enjoy!

After the game, to try and avoid some of the congestion on the T, and to drown our sorrows from the loss (just kidding) we went to Boston Beer Works just across the street from the stadium. We had tried to come there to eat before the game, but even though we were 2 hours early, the wait was so long we wouldn't have made it to the game on time. But it wasn't too crowded at all afterward so we enjoyed some very tasty appetizers.

I thought ahead thankfully and didn't have to come to work until 11 on Tuesday, which was very nice because we did have a late night. What a fun weekend we had!

Looks like you all had a ton of fun! Didn't you say your parents were there for an early birthday celebration?? Where's the pics of the cake, presents, etc? I know Vicky wouldn't travel all the way there without something for you! ;)

All the places you guys get to go visit are so quaint....in a really good way!! It looks like you are having a great time!
Part of me would love to live on the east coast, just for the fall season, and maybe early winter! We are still in 100 degree weather, our "fall" is December, and the cactus certainly don't change color! So this is the time of year I wish I was someplace else...your pictures give me "warm fuzzies" :)
