internet, moving, the gibbs', new york, etc.

Well look out, this might be a quite lengthy post. I had good intentions of posting this much sooner, but out internet has been non-existent lately; let me explain. A few months ago Daniel and I thought to ourselves, hmm, why are we paying $60-whatever dollars a month when we both have free internet all day at school/work AND there is an unsecured wireless connection on our building? So we happily canceled our interest service and "Gordon Guy" (the name of the unsecured wireless connection) has served us just fine. Sure, its was little spotty here and there, but we don't complain over free internet. Anywho, last Thursday I think, all of a sudden it just stopped working. It still appears as an available internet connection, but we are never able to connect. So who knows, maybe we got caught or something. We will probably get our own internet again (hopefully to share with a few other peeps though) when we move.

Yes move. I don't think we had mentioned this before, but we are moving. But don't worry, just down the hall (Seriously, from 301 to 304, just next door and across the hall). We are upgrading (down grading...?) to a one-bedroom. Now all you folks who haven't visited us yet, this unfortunately means if you come and pay us a visit you will no longer have your own room. BUT, we still will have the futon, so all hope is not lost. It just didn't make sense for us to have a 2-bedroom apartment when we really only used the second room when visitors were here. Daniel started renting a desk at the library last semester and thats where he does all his studying (and where I am typing right now!), so I think we will be okay in a one bedroom. Plus the closet in the one-bedroom is GINORMOUS (I am not kidding, I will post pictures because it is seriously unbelievable) and on a less materialistic side, the living room is also bigger, so some pros with the con of technically losing square footage.

ANYWAY, on to other things. So our dear, dear friends Aaron and Megan Gibbs were able to pay us a visit a few weeks ago. The arrived on May 13 and stayed through the 20th. Unfortunately Daniel had some school/studying and I had work a for few days of their visit, but we were still able to do and see a lot. :)

I took Thursday and Friday off of work so that we were able to make the most of the time they were here. On Thursday we ventured down to Boston for some typical sight-seeing. Here are some highlights -

We payed a visit to fenway, it was a little different this time in daylight without all the crazy red sox fans swarming the place. :)

While we were walking down Newbury Street Aaron decided that he would use his iPhone to look up where the Apple Store was. I guess he likes to visit different stores in different cities he visits. Anyway, he found it and it was just a few blocks away, so we decided to humor him. As we were walking there we stumbled upon a line, encompassing 3 blocks or so....

When I asked the policeman what the line was for, you will never believe it. Apparently TODAY (well, that day, May 15th) was the grand opening of the Apple Store in downtown Boston. And it is apparently now the biggest Apple Store in the US. (I'm not too surprised, it was huge). Much to Aaron's dismay I am sure we didn't stand in line to wait for the store to open, but we did at least get to see it. Just a funny coincidence. :)

After that we headed the the Boston Common/Public Garden, which looked a little nicer than our last visit!! At little more growth at least. We snapped a few pictures and I finally found this duck statue thing that I was looking for for a while. Also spotted these adorable REAL ducklings. I hate birds, but these were sweet. :)

We met up and had dinner with Aaron's aunt (or second cousin, whatever) :) who lives in Cambridge and had some dinner there. We of course had to hurry home to catch the 2nd to last episode this season of LOST (we are quite looking forward to the season finale tomorrow, should be a good one!)

Aaron consoling Daniel after a long of sight-seeing.

So as you can probably tell from the title, we also took a little trip down to New York City. That was our fun for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Now this was quite the adventure, from the driving in New York City traffic, to the rain, to the sketchy motel; but it was a lot of fun. The city is huge and pretty amazing, and we were able to see a lot even in our limited time there. On Friday and Sunday it pretty much rained all day, but we were all thankfully that Saturday was actually a pretty beautiful day! Again, some highlights -

We made a slight detour through Rhode Island...

And made a quick stop at Yale! :)

Here is one picture of our sketchy room...but I really won't complain because the price was absolutely unbelievable, and we were only 1 block from times square!!

Times Square at night was just surreal.

We had dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. right in time square. Because the weather was bad we decided to catch a late showing of Prince Caspian, which was really good. :)

The next morning we tried to see all we could. 6th Ave. was shut down for at least 10 blocks for a street fair!

As you can see the streets were packed. But it was a lot of fun, I ended up with my very own fake Dolce and Gabanna purse and we all ate some street vendor food for lunch!

Outside Radio City Music Hall

The courtyard out front of Rockefeller Center.

As we approached Central Park it was crazy to see the skyscrapers stop and all the trees in the distance...

Central Park was actually a lot nicer and bigger than I had ever imaged!

St. Patrick's Cathedral on 5th Ave.

video

It was beautiful inside, its hard to do it justice. This is a video Daniel took, I don't even know if you can see or hear, but there was actually a wedding going on while all of us tourists were wandering around inside!

Ground Zero (and memorial) was closed so unfortunately we couldn't go inside that. We did get to peep through the fence though and it is pretty unreal.

Just a bunch of veteran New Yorkers waiting for the subway. :)

Sunday, on the ferry, approaching the statue of liberty.

Just some of the New York City skyline, as viewed from Liberty Island.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the best. :(

The Lady herself. :)

Right before we drove them to the airport...

You are welcome Aaron and Megan (I am responding to your blog post, not just being rude) :) We had a lot of fun with your guys. Our last night together felt like old times, hanging out playing cities and nights. :)

Told you this would be long. Sorry. :) This must be some kind of record or something...
