Moving to Massachusetts Entry #3

So, after getting to Buffalo, NY late Monday night, we slept at our ghetto-rific Econolodge hotel. Ralph Wilson Stadium, the home of the Buffalo Bills, was only three miles away; Daniel planned it this way, so we drove there. It is a little odd, because the stadium is amidst a small town outside of Buffalo. There are no parking garages, just lots. It was very similar to Raymond James stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida where the Buccaneers play. Except RW is a little ghetto. Daniel has become a Buffalo Bills fan of late, but was a little disappointed by the stadium and surrounding region. But, they are a scrappy team, and so should have a scrappy stadium and scrappy weather.

Buffalo itself is also a scrappy city. There are several abandoned factories that should be torn down instead of being an eyesore. But the city wasn't terrible, just a little bleak. Could have been the weather though, as it is one the coldest American cities.

A draw to Buffalo, in addition to the Bill's, and Buffalo wings; no joke they originated here, is the proximity to Niagara falls. We heard that the view was much better from the Canadian side, so we crossed the border and headed into the outskirts of Toronto. The town was very touristy, obviously so, but still a WWF retail store? Brother Please!

We drove to the Falls and parked for $17.50 American, it was $18.00 Canadian; something is wrong with that picture. We took a lot of pictures, like all the rest of the tourists, including several Hasidic Jews, but the mist from the falls has the same tendency as rain, so you get drenched. Jenny offered to take a picture for a Hasidic (orthodox) Jewish family, that hesitantly agreed. We got the impression that they let us take their picture out of politeness to us, and the father did not talk to Jenny. It was a very interesting encounter, culturally awkward but it made me think quite a bit about their culture, and how to many more traditional views, we as gentiles are still goyim. Anyway it was fascinating for us. Here are some pictures of the falls....

At Niagara Falls there are two separate falls. The main one is shaped like a horseshoe, and is the more impressive one. The three pictures above show that, the second is smaller but equally as picturesque because there is less mist/rain to ruin the picture.

We liked Niagara Falls, but it took a longer time than we thought it would. The border crossings were smoothish, besides the fact that they wanted to know why we had so much stuff in the car.

After the falls we drove the rest of the day through rural upstate New York, and entered Massachusetts in the evening. We arrived in Boston around 10:45 pm, and I screwed up a sweet photo opp. for the "End of I-90" sign, so we'll provide that later. We got to the seminary before midnight, thus ending our 3100 mile trip, thankful that we made it through without any car trouble or speeding tickets, and only a few close calls. :) We move into our two-bedroom on campus apartment this Saturday and are exited to begin this new stage of life.
